We have not posted a blog in quite a while so we wanted to provide a quick update on our recent activities. Since our last post, our newest book,Atlanta’s Oakland Cemetery: An Illustrated History and Guidewas released to very good reviews by the University of Georgia Press. Since its release, we have given presentations about Oakland to a number of locations including Fox Tales and Eagle Eye Bookstores, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the National Archives Southeastern Regional headquarters, and the North Atlanta Rotary Club.
In additon, we have spoken to groups about the Civilian Conservation Corps at Hanging Rock State Park in North Carolina, Cacapon State Park in West Virginia, to a CCC reunion at Leonard Harrison State Park in Pennsylvania, at Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, at Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.
We are actively exploring opportunities to speak at parks around the country in 2013 as this is the 80th anniversary of the the establishment of the CCC by the Roosevelt Administration in 1933.
We also had a book signing forAtlanta Walksat Van Jernigan Florists in Atlanta as part of their debut of special Georgia-themed gift baskets. This was a fun and unique event!
We are currently at work on revisions toGeorgia Walksand have undertaken a new project profiling the work of George Alexander Grant, the first chief photographer for the National Park Service [1929 - 1954]. We will keep everyone posted on progress on these projects as well as future activities
